About B.W. Alan

"Every story I've ever written began as a wound looking for language."

Stories have always been how I make sense of the world.

Not because stories offer answers, but because they remind us we are not the only ones asking the questions. They give shape to grief, language to love, meaning to loss, and light to the parts of ourselves we are often afraid to examine.

I write for those who have loved deeply, lost greatly, and survived anyway.

My work lives in the quiet spaces between what happened and what remains. I am drawn to the stories we carry long after the moment has passed—the memories that linger, the wounds that shape us, the questions that refuse to leave, and the resilience required to keep moving forward despite them.

Whether through novels, poetry, spoken word, essays, or letters, my goal remains the same: to create work that makes people feel seen.

I believe language matters.

The right words cannot erase pain, but they can help us bear it. They can challenge us, comfort us, and sometimes reveal truths we have been carrying for years without knowing how to name them.

My debut novel, Saving Hampton Grace, is available through major booksellers worldwide.

I am currently writing The Dark Mirror Duology, beginning with What the Mourning Holds—a dark and emotionally layered exploration of grief, identity, memory, power, and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.

Beyond my fiction, the work continues through a collection of interconnected literary spaces, all rooted in what I simply call The Quiet.

The Quiet is where every story begins. It is the space beneath the page—the place where memory, loss, hope, love, and longing gather before they become words. Everything I create grows from that same landscape.

  • From the Quiet emerge The Whispers—poetry, prose, and long-form reflections exploring the questions that stay with us long after the page is turned.
  • The Echoes preserve fragments of thought, quiet observations, and the lines that refuse to leave once they've found you.
  • The Voices give language to the conversations we never finished through spoken word and performance.
  • The Letters offer a more personal journey into the work through reflections, stories, essays, and correspondence from behind the page.
  • The Inked are the stories that remained. The ones that stayed long enough to be bound in print and released into the world, where they now belong as much to readers as they do to me.
  • The Branches are the places where all of these stories continue to grow, extending beyond the quiet and connecting with readers wherever they may be.

Together, they form an ecosystem of stories. Different expressions of the same heart. Different paths through the same landscape. Different ways of exploring what it means to love, lose, heal, remember, and remain human.

Beyond my own writing, I also create commissioned pieces for those seeking help finding the words that matter most.

Through custom poems, letters, spoken word pieces, songs, memorial tributes, and other deeply personal works, I help transform feelings into language when language feels hardest to find.

Some stories deserve to be told. Some words deserve to be spoken.
And some moments are simply too important to leave unsaid.

Welcome. There is always room for one more story.

The Questions I Write

Every B.W. Alan novel begins somewhere different.

A woman learning that being loved is not the same as being saved.

A daughter standing at the edge of a world grief was never meant to open.

A family trying to make a life from what was remembered, forgotten, and never lived.

Two people who loved beautifully, wondering if ending made it less real.

A woman holding a debt no punishment can ever truly repay.

But beneath each story is the same impossible question:

How do we live with what cannot be changed?

My stories live in the places where there is no perfect answer. Where love cannot fix everything. Where grief cannot be reasoned with. Where the past cannot be rewritten. Where justice cannot restore what was taken.

They are not stories about finding the right answer.

They are stories about what we choose when there isn't one.

In Development

How do you live with a debt that can never be paid?

Love cannot choose survival for us.

Love cannot keep us from losing what we love.

We cannot recover the lives that were never lived.

An ending cannot make what was beautiful a mistake.

Punishment cannot restore what was taken.

And still, there is a life on the other side of the impossible.

I write about the things we cannot undo, the people we cannot keep, the lives we cannot recover, and the debts that cannot make us whole.

And the people who have to live anyway.
